Still Exhibits

Judging to take place Thursday, August 14th at 5 pm

Exhibits must remain in place until 6 pm Sunday

Class Fees

There are no entry fees for still exhibits.


Entry form must be submitted or postmarked by August 1st.


Entries may be brought to the Arts & Crafts building on the Grahamsville Fairgrounds (next to the Secretary's Booth) on the immediate Wednesday before the fair from 5 pm - 8 pm and on the immediate Thursday before the fair from 9 am - 4:30 pm. 


Entries must remain in place until 6 pm Sunday after which time the entries may be picked up at the Arts & Crafts building. Premium checks may be picked up from the Secretary's Booth if premiums were earned on entries.

Premium Information

$50 Best of Show prizes will be awarded for Departments 2-8. 


Each department has a set maximum premium; however, premium amounts may be adjusted due to the number of entries.


Not all entries will earn premium awards.

Still Exhibit Categories

Vegetables and Fruit

$50 Best of Show Prize will be awarded

Maximum Premium Money: $200

Ribbons: Blue/Red/White

1. All entries must have been grown by the exhibitor and must be labeled plainly with the variety name on the entry form where applicable. All entries must be displayed on a clean white paper plate to which the entry tag is securely attached. All classes will be judged as to market quality (which includes uniformity in size, form, color and freedom from blemish, as well as edible quality) and trueness to type. Varieties distinctly off type will be disqualified. All produce must be washed, trimmed and clean. 

2. All entry forms for the fair must be postmarked no later than August 1st. Entries may be brought to the fairgrounds on Wednesday from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Thursday from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. Judging will begin at 5pm on Thursday. Any item brought in after judging has started will not be accepted.

3. There are no age restrictions for this department. All entries will be judged at the adult age level.

Culinary Arts

Ribbons: Blue/Red/White

1. Entries should be packaged in a clear wrapper with your

entry tag securely attached. Recipes must accompany all entries, including canned foods. These recipes must be

typed or written in ink on a 3” x 5” card. Entries containing any foreign object, i.e. hair, will be automatically disqualified. All canned and dried goods must have been preserved within one year. 

2. All entry forms for the fair must be postmarked no later than August 1st. Entries may be brought to the fairgrounds on Wednesday from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Thursday from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. Judging will begin at 5pm on Thursday. Any item brought in after judging has started will not be accepted.

3. There are no age restrictions for this department. All entries will be judged at the adult level.

Exhibit Rules for Cakes

Except for a cake requiring a special pan, such as angel food, chiffon, or cakes decorated for a special occasion, exhibit cake should be baked in a shallow 8” x 8” x 2” or 9” loaf cake pan – 9/12” x 5” x 3”. Cakes must be out of the baking pan. Cakes should have a neat appearance, texture consistent with recipe and ingredients used, flavor well blended and pleasant to taste.

Exhibit Rules for Pies

Crust should be golden brown, flaky and crisp eating, cut easily with a fork or knife but holds shape when served, with a pleasant flavor. Fruit fillings should be whole fruit or pieces suited to fruit used. Texture should be tender, but able to hold shape. Flavor should be characteristic of fruit used. No starchy taste. Soft fillings should have a smooth, well-blended consistency, hold shape when served, pleasant flavor characteristic of ingredients.

Exhibit Rules for Cookies (enter 6 cookies)

Cookies should be of even thickness. Drop cookies should be free from thin edges or spreading and dropped from a spoon and not pressed. All cookies should be free from excess flour on the outside and delicately browned unless the recipe states otherwise. Flavor should be free from the excessive taste of spice, flavoring, molasses or other sweetening. Texture depends on the type of cookies. Thin-rolled cooked or refrigerator cookies should be crisp. Others should be fine, even grain, and somewhat moist. All cookies should be tender. Bar cookies may be soft or chewy or cake-like inside.

Exhibit Rules for Breads

Breads should be baked in a single loaf container about 9” x 5” x 3” or shaped as recommended in recipe. Yeast breads should have uniform golden crust, smooth well-rounded top, slice easily and hold shape. The texture should be moderately fine, even grained and free from large air bubbles. The flavor should be pleasant, well baked, bland and nut-like in taste. Quick bread should be even or slightly rounded, golden brown crust, equally light throughout. The texture should be fine, even grain, not crumbly, Flavor should be characteristic of ingredients. Any nuts or fruits should be evenly distributed.

Exhibit Rules for Home Canned Foods

All canned foods must be processed in standard clear-glass canning jars with self-sealing, two pieced lids. Jars must have a vacuum seal. Size of canning jar and product must meet USDA Guidelines. Jars must be labeled with contents, type of processing (boiling/ pressure), time of process and altitude adjustment. Time and method of process should agree with USDA/PNW recommendations. Appropriate headspace requirements must be followed:

Fruits: ½ inch  Vegetables: ½ to 1 inch

Pickles: ½ inch Jams and Jellies: ¼ inch

Exhibit Rules for Maple Syrup Products

All maple products must be pure maple, at least 12 oz jars. Maple syrup will be judged on color (grade standard), clarity (properly filtered), density (weight standard), flavor and odor. Grades: US Grade A Light Amber, US Grade A Medium Amber, US Grade A Dark Amber.

1) All entries in the flower section must have been raised by the exhibitor and must be plainly marked with the variety name on the entry form. Entry tags will not be printed for entries without the variety name listed. All house plants must have been grown by the exhibitor for at least 3 months. Judging will be based on size, form, color, trueness to type, and conformance with class specifications.

2) All entry forms for the fair must be postmarked no later than August 1st. Entries may be brought to the fairgrounds on Wednesday from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Thursday from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. Judging will begin at 5pm on Thursday. Any item brought in after judging has started will not be accepted.

3) Exhibitors must supply their own plain container for display. In order to maintain exhibits in good condition, all perishable plant materials must be in water.

4) Entries are limited to three (3) per class, per person.

1. An exhibitor tag must be attached to each article submitted. Entries must be entirely the work of the exhibitor. Previously entered items will not be accepted. The emphasis will be on high quality workmanship. Soiled or worn articles will not be accepted. Articles entered should be correctly labeled giving name, material used and manner of making (eg: tablecloth, linen, embroidered).

2. The judges selected are fully qualified and their decisions will be final. Judges will in no case award a prize where there is no merit. The judges also reserve the right to refuse those works not suitable for display.

3. Category choices are solely the decision and choice of the entrant. The fair or fair judges will not be responsible for selecting categories for entries.

Any picture or drawing must be matted or framed. Coloring pages not accepted.

Entries may include any article in the above classification made by children up to and including age 11. Special exhibits or articles made for school may also be used, Entry forms must give description of entry and age of the child, as age will be considered in the judging.
